Followup: Constance McMillen's classmates confirm prom ruse, the fact that they're bigoted

http://www.inquisitr.com/69069/constance-mcmillen-fake-prom-confirmed/

Rumors that the teenage lesbian from Mississippi who was banned from attending her prom only to be re-directed to a fake prom with a mere five other students in attendance have been confirmed, quite hatefully, by McMillen's classmates.

A classmate of Constance's named Lindsay Begley wrote a rather lengthy explanation of why she and her classmates are a bunch of horrid bigots, and if following this story from the outset hasn't brought back the wretchedness of the highschool hierarchy, Begley's message certainly will. (And if you're the type of person who would throw rocks at McMillen and call her names, you can join the Facebook group "Constance, quit yer cryin'.")

I have a feeling that five or ten years from now (after going to college) that some of the "boycotters" are going to regret what they did.  It'll obviously be too late for Constance's (first) senior prom, but those people will feel much more urgency for doing the right thing... because they have first-hand experience of how sinister the wrong thing can be.  Also, the attendence was probably dictated more by parents rather than children (even given there is a strong correlation of attitudes between them), so the numbers are going to be more representative of the parents in that area.

By trying to absolve himself of responsibility, the administrator left the population to their own devices, and the people in that area (generally) showed how bad people can be.  Because of the visibility of the sequence on certain parts of the Internet, the major characters involved will not be able to run away from their past.  And given the attitude trends regarding GLBs, history will not treat the boycotters (especially the vocal ones) kindly.

It just really sucks for Constance right now.

I have a feeling that the school board is going to regret this a lot sooner once the lawyers get done with them.

Let's hope so!

The best thing that could happen to these 'children' is to learn a hard lesson.  Refuse them into college and force them to take their GED.

It is time that the bigots begin to pay for their bigotry.  They can speak their minds, but they need repercussions for this crapola.  But nothing will happen because they are protected by the constitution.

That's not really needed (and it is dangerous because parental influence is probably driving the behavior more than free will).  I'm thinking that most of the kids that end up "learning" from their mistake will do so with the help of a college experience.  They will probably be thrown into a more tolerant environment where they see GLBTs supported much better.  They will see it in the faculty, the students, and university rules.  A few of the more bold ones that still speak hostility will find themselves surrounded rather than doing the surrounding.  They can still hide away in some student organizations, but they can't stop the rest.

There will be a few colleges that allow them to retain their bigoted ways, but it will tend to mean an inferior and/or more costly education (which is along the lines of what Janet Lynn brings up anyway, but the individuals will voluntarily inflict it upon themselves).

I fail to understand why don't these kids just en-mass  attend a school board meeting.  Why did they view the school boards action as irreversible?
if each of the senior class called each member of the school board.
Instead they bought the school boards "decision" hook line and sinker.
Then following the boards logic, went out and shot the messenger.
