On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) came to UConn and discussed his sponsorship of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act at the Rainbow Center.

Lieberman said a study  to be conducted later this year will determine those answers. The question of whether the transsexual community will be included in the repeal of DADT was also raised. Lieberman responded that DADT is specially addressed to gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals. Transgender individuals are not specifically addressed in the proposed bill.

The proposed bill includes a policy of nondiscrimination based on sexual orientation, which would protect transgender individuals.
