I've already posted one topic about this question, but I want the FtM surgery. However, since I'm not completely sure about things yet, I was wondering if I should wait a few years to make sure that I want the surgery. I have a question for you all though. Like I said, pain isn't a big deal for me, but I know that the bottom surgery is not very successful yet. Do you think in 10 years the surgery will have improved with new technology? And do you think it will be possible for FtMs to reproduce with another girl without having to be the ones to get pregnant?

Oh, and a question about counselling, how long does it take until the counselor approves and you are allowed to get the surgery? And if you just want the top surgery, how long does it take to complete? Thanks

at the current rate in advancements, it might take 10 years before phallo starts to really get good. I predict meta will be the same, some aesthetic enhancements and advances in surgery for less complications.

technically it's possible now but it will take couple more years before stem cell generated mature sperm from the lab will be used for reproduction.

3 months therapy or RLE for top surgery ok (usually). at least 1 year on T before bottom surgery + 2 letters of recommendation. the time to get surgery letters depends on the therapist.

If you're not completely sure then wait. Surgery is inherently risky, and it's not exactly something you can undo. Bottom surgery also carries the risk of unreversable nerve damage.

I'd also advise waiting on starting HRT if you're not 100% sure transition is something you want - it changes FTM's pretty quickly and drastically (and you can't undo a lot of the changes once they've taken place).

Talking to a counsellor however - that's a good move. Though if you're after letters for HRT and surgery, you may have to visit a clinical psychiatrist.

Top surgery is pretty good as it is - I don't think they're going to make drastic improvements.

Bottom surgery right now is pretty pathetic. It doesn't look right, and doesn't function right. Wait if you have the time. They're improving all the time and I'd hazard a guess it's going to look very different in 10 years time.

Breeding with a female is going to be a long while off, even with stem cell research. Adoption, or artificial insemination (of your female partner) with donor sperm are the most viable options.

Although some men retain their "bits" and can fall pregnant after a long time on T... don't count on it as a reliable game plan. There is no guarantee that your reproductive system will start back up after it shuts down.
