So I came home this weekend because my parents wanted to talk about gender / transition stuff.  My family has been pretty absent minded about it for the longest time.  Like they've know and they support me but they don't realize a lot that's going on and like the troubles of all their future planning for this summer / Christmas etc and stuff.

I finally got down to talking to them this weekend too.  I decided to send an email first just breaking them into it since I can get short tempered with my family at times because of not understanding.  So I wanted to make sure I stayed totally calm and understanding the whole time.  I got them to realize that maybe making a ton of future plans probably isn't a good idea when I want to go fulltime this summer.  So it's a start in the right direction.

My brother is next on the list to really get down to and talk to again.  It seems like the closer I get to finally going FT the more difficult things become because everything I told my family is just forgotten and I have to like completely start over again.  It's going to be super awkward when it happens also so I also told them that I'm going to need a little space for a little while so I can adjust and stuff too.

Lets just hope this doesn't backfire on me haha

Well I'm trying to express to my parents the need for sorta like a little time for adjustment because they've never seen me dressed or anything lol.  Like I said I'm not a big incorporator of them in my transition.  And I mean, I don't live with them so I don't think they have to be for that reason too.  I just sort of wanted to make sure I can live on my own and adjust first then I can deal with the harder issues of parents  / family and stuff when I'm comfortable.

So I don't know if it's a good idea.  But I'm going to try it and hopefully it will work out.

I think you will do just fine, they might be a bit shocked, but remember knee-jerk reactions are not indicative of the future, so even if they initially seemed shocked don't worry. Good luck.
