i only had a small one to begin with but i had mine shaved this year by Dr Suporn and it now looks and feels just like any other females.

You can find lots of ways to cover it including putting on weight or neckties ect but if it bothers you then start saving for tcr, it was well worth the money in my opinion.

Get fat; wear a scarf; become so confident it doesn't affect you (only works if it's not, say, out past your chin.) Not much you can do.

I think I saw a post saying someone could retract theirs? Not sure how. But I think shaving is the only way if you have a large AA. I do wear a lot of turtle necks.

I think the AA is the biggest give away for MtF, any opinions?

Oh and why is it called Adam's Apple?

Tracheal Shave is the only way to get rid of it, unless you cover it up like said above.

I would think voice would be the biggest giveaway.

Oh and why is it called Adam's Apple?

It's either a reference to a piece of the apple offered to Adam by Eve that stuck in his throat or an English version of "pomum Adami", which is "Adam's apple" in Latin.   And that may have been a mistranslation of the Hebrew "tappuach ha adam", which also means "male bump".

I don't even have a small one. I never did, just like my voice never properly broke either - don't know if the two are connected...

BUT

I did read somewhere recently that contrary to popular belief it is NOT an infallible guide to gender. It's basically an indication of the size of your trachea - and increasingly as women get bulkier a lot of them are getting adams apples too.

So next time you give that knowing wink to the girl in the store with huge AA just bear in mind that you have a chance of being wrong.

Tracheal shave is I believe the option that most opt for.

As Jenny has said, traches come in all sorts and sizes.  And some women do have larger ones.

If you lift your trachea to cut the resonance in your voice to make it more feminine sounding, that will lift it higher in the neck and make it less obvious.  So learning how to speak with a female voice actually does help hide your trache.

The only other way to make it less obvious is through tracheal shave surgery.  I never had one that big, but having it shaved did quite a bit for my self confidence.
