Well, there are always more ways to fragment these circles into more and more if you really feel the need to...to the point that we could have the olympic rings times 10, and still be asking for more circles.

That said, we're not trying to break her brain here.      It sounds like a simple 3 circle diagram may be a challenge at this point.

Out of curiosity though, how do you differentiate between Gender identity and Sex identity?  (I'm not sure whether you're talking body image, or something else)

I'll agree that 3 rings is plenty and yes I was kind of going with physical image. I just thought that is what the mother would be looking at.  It may not be a good thing to add tho.

When I first came out to my mom as trans and gay she was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find a man who would want me if I transitioned.  I made the mistake of mentioning, in passing, other gay transmen as a possibility, and now she's having trouble getting her head around her former daughter, now son, dating someone who used to be a woman but is now a man, and not not a woman who used to be a man. 

Hmmm.  When I put it like that, I'm not sure I get it, either.

LOL I haven't mentioned that possibility to her yet.  OTOH if I end up dating a gay transman, I likely won't tell her unless he feels for whatever reason he wants to.
