Denise Abbah, the Durban woman jailed for six months with men and transgender inmates, is suing the Department of Correctional Services, but she is willing to settle out of court.

Abbah (nee Wilson) claimed she was deliberately incarcerated in the wrong cell and was raped and sodomised while in detention at Westville Prison between September 2002 and July 2003.

But prison officials have disputed this, saying Abbah made a statement at the time of her arrest, saying she was a "transvestite".
