What does it really mean to be a woman? Or a man? What if being a man also means enjoying dressing up as a woman? Or if dressing as a man means freedom for a woman? These are some of the issues explored in Façades, an original play that mingles a drag show with runway reality television for a performance that is, in turn, raucous, comedic, and thoughtful. It will be staged at College of the Atlantic's Gates Community Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15, and at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 16.

The play was written by College of the Atlantic senior Daniel Mahler as part of his final project. He also directs and stars in it as Frank, who often dresses as a woman, calling himself Fantasia Fabulous. The play features the events – and romances – leading up to a night when the contestants for Continental's Newest High Fashion Model reality program are suddenly brought into a drag show that is referred to in the play as "that Transmogrification thing."
