Hi there.

I'm Alaska, new to the forum though I have trolled.

I went to Brassard in February, I have fantastic results.

No early complications, Everything sensate, 4 orgasms since, low swelling.

I was even bad at keeping myself clean and sterile (I live in a rundown queer punk house), but everything went great.

However, now, 2.75 months after surgery, I've run into a (hopefully) slight complication

On Sunday I was dilating and after pulling out th largest one, I found some blood mixed into the lube. The next dilation it was clear. On monday and tuesday I had a slight iron-y odour with trace amounts of blood or some other discolourant  in th lube, nothing out of th ordinary in my panty discharge. After resuming douching the odour is mostly gone and my douche is clear, but today I once again have blood on my dilators.

Now I'm just hoping it's a small tear from dilating that is healing a bit slow because of the repetitive dilation. I've emailed Anne from Asclepiade, just waiting for her response.

I figure I'll leave it alone until th weekend then think about a doctor if it bleeds again.

Any advice or experience?

Hi Alaska,
I'm only 12 days post-op.  I get just a drop of blood mixed with the gel when I dilate, so I would think it would be normal.  But I would check with Brassard's office to be sure.  Each of us knows only our own experience, but the office knows the real deal.

And welcome to the forum.  (Read the rules, etc. :police:;)

If you're less than 3 months why are you using #4 already? According to the schedule they gave me, you should start #4 at the 3-month mark. Did they give you a different schedule?

If you started that early that could be the reason...you moved up too quickly.

My schedule is:

1 month - #1, #2
2 months - #1, #2, #3
3 months - #2, #3, #4
6 months - #3, #4

Hi, and welcome.

I was also a Brassard girl. What I found, especially the first 6 months would be periodic bleeding from dilation. This either happened when I went up to a larger size, or if I was lazy with my dilation schedule. When you don't stick to your schedule, the vaginal cavity tends to shrink. Sometimes you need to go down in dilator size until you are back on schedule, so you don't bleed

The worst thing you can do is "push it", size wise-that is, using a dilator that is really a struggle to get in before you are ready, or back on schedule. When I've done that, I will pay the price the next day with dryness and soreness.

My advice is to stay on schedule, use lots of lube, and exercise common sense!

Oh to clarify, by largest dilator I mean largest of the three, so: #3. The idea of 4 still makes me uncomfortable.

The odour is the part I'm more worried about. I'm hoping it is just blood from a slight tear and not bacteria; if I have a tear then th last thing I want is for it to get infected.

Thanks for all your input. Regardless of any advice I get, I think it's just good to post about it so I'm not healing in an information vacuum.

I would suggest going back to sitz baths for awhile. I would also douche every day until the order disappears. It could be a yeast infection or UTI. Some odor is to be expected, but any yellowish or green discharge is a sign of an infection.  Not that big of deal, as it will go away with proper care.

A rundown queer punk house.. sounds fun ;)

===============

I had a different surgeon, so our post-op areas may be a bit different, but we're roughly the same time post op, and I still have blood on the dilator on occasion ..  It's expected I think, to see this from time to time.  Not that this is medical advice.

If you douche after dilation, maybe mix a bit of betadine in with the water after a dilation .   I keep a bottle of it on hand, and use it once a week  (just a teeny bit).

Alaska, Thanks for the encouraging post. I am scheduled for GRS with Dr Brassard on Oct 26Th. Despite the minor possible complication, sounds like things look and are functioning great! And in a relatively short period of time.
Just what i was hoping to hear!!

Best wishes

You might have popped a capillary or two during dilation, due to the stretching, its like getting tiny traces of blood when you blow your nose hard.

- Avoid vigorous dilating
- Use dilators you are comfortable with
- Plenty of lube
- Don't skip dilation sessions
- Vaginal estrogen cream helps soften tissues and scarring.
- Do not over douche, you need the friendly bacteria too

I hope you heal asap.
