Wearing full make-up for the first time

I have been doing my makeup since I was 14 off and on so I have had alot of practice for when I came out. Eyeliner is just a matter of taking control and doing it with resolve. The problem is that you are probably afraid of hurting the eye so it makes your hand want to pull away from the eye leading to the wiggly line look. Trust your hand to do what you want it to and not hurt your eye.

I've been watching youtube videos most of today and tried applying eyeliner a couple more times - still not great, but it's getting better with each attempt!

Cynthlalee: Yeah, that's my main problem - and being able to keep a steady hand! Next time I'll try doing it the way you and Laura do; I noticed a few girls on youtube doing that too but I never thought it was 'safe' do draw on that part!

I really love the Gyaru, smokey and gothic/scene/emo styles like Avril Lavine's signature look so will aim to accomplish these looks once I can apply properly (though, perhaps it may be mutton dressed as lamb at age 26!).

I googled ardell 110 and they seem to be popular with Asian girls, thanks Tristan! If I end-up getting FFS, I'd really like to look into being altered to look more East Asian xD.

Unfortunately I have to use reading glasses, so it is all a bit hit and miss without them. I have tried a magnifying mirror but that doesn't work.  Apart from a set of reading contact lenses, anyone have any suggestions?

I agree that eyeliner is the one must-have item. I wear glasses too but prefer the pencil (Loreal Pencil Perfect self advancing eyeliner). I just scoot my glasses up as high as I can and put the pencil under them. It's the only way I can even see that small of an area well enough without poking my eye. I take them off to apply mascara but my lashes are much larger and easier to find with the brush so that part isn't a problem.

Eyeliner is a pain. I can say this, my MAC mua turned me onto their gel liner and I love it. Still applied with a small brush but far more forgiving then liquid. Plus I think it looks just as good over the standard pencils.

when I started wearing makeup all the time, eye-liner was my big gripe. I've never gotten the liquid right and the pencil was hard for a while and what I eventually figured out was that I was doing it wrong (or else I'm doing it wrong now!) - here's what I changed:

I started laying the tip of the pencil actually on the inner lid instead of trying to "outline" the eye  - that is I'm putting the color actually on the pink edge of the lid, not on the skin itself.

As i said, this might be the wrong way to do it but i get the right look and don't have the crazy crooked lines I used to have.

It is getting over the tickling feeling of putting the pencil to the lash line that i find tough.

The MAC stuff is waterpoof too and better than kohl eyeliners pencils because it doesn't smudge. It's a darker and its a more lasting black.

For the eye, get an angled eyeliner brush. When using pencil or cake pot, use the product on your top of your hand THEN apply the product on your eyelines with your brush by using your hand as a palette kinda thing (starting from middle then working out to side & then working from inner eye to middle of eye). You can use the angled brush for the geliner too but you don't need to place the product on your hand. For the waterline, the kohl pencil can be directly applied to the waterline.

Remember your eye is sensitive and you should be replacing your mascara every 3 months. For the brushes, you should be sanitizing them with brush cleaner or by washing them with antibacterial soap. To sanitize your pencils, use a pencil sharpener to sharpen your pencils.

The eyes are definitely a challenge. Eyeliner (pencil) is going in the right direction now, and I just bought a liquid one to see what difference that makes.
Mascara still gets me in trouble sometimes, because of the seemingly uncontrollable urge to close my eyes once anything gets near. Resulting in black mess all over my eyes.
Practicing is making a difference however - total makeup time is down from over 1 hour to 40 minutes or so :-)

Mac Studio Fix Fluid!! LOVE IT. A great trick is to use a fine misting bottle and moisten your face when your applying. then some light powder and mist you face again when you done. Foundation wont look so fake. I totally swear by a mist bottle. as for eyeliner Mac Powerpoint pencil (Stubborn Brow) Not too black, is probably the best Ive found and Ive been buying makeup for like 20yrs.

for everyday I only use a little eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss which takes like less than 6 minutes. Underneath it all however nothing beats a good moisturizer used diligently. I save the other stuff for when I'm going out. I usually do my nails (fingers and toes) while watching TV as that is something that does take some time.

Yeah, I kinda go easy on my makeup. I was shown by a TG and GG first off, but they recommended quite large amounts, and it got to the point that I was in the belief that the reason why I wasn't passing in public was because of my makeup... I was right after my mum talked me through it, (How to make it look more natural and conserved) I pretty much instantly started passing in public. Only problem was, my mum likes to put eye shadow all over and out of the eye socket... I don't like it that big lol.

But yeah, you pick some things up, mix and match. I learned how to do eye liner from a youtube clip. ^^
