See the new mother's day episode?  What do you think?

I liked it. Glenn struggles with his father's decision, but in the end he accepts Ida for who she is.

I also liked it, and I typically hate family guy.

I liked the fact that Brian had sex with her, and didnt know the difference. That was a positive message (in my eyes) where she passed completely and was simply a woman.

It showed both sides of the situation, but I think it more emphasized the making fun of it side :/  I really didn't like Peter and Louis' reactions, and Brian's when he realized.  I see your point though and at least it raises awareness.  I typically love family guy but this one really pushed it.

I think they always push it with every episode..Like its always a controversial topic and they always push the button so i cant say i expected much more for them. I totally understand the negative aspect too though. BUT at the same time. I think like, showing both sides is real. Ya know? Its not good but its real...

And seeing the negative aspects can inspire two things..more negativaty or an awareness of wow, This is what someone who is trans goes through on a daily basis, acceptance from some and rejection of others, but when it counted the one person that mattered in a sense..DID accept it :)

idk I HATE family guy to begin with haha

BTW while were at it, there was also one they did when Meg became Ron...and he was simply accepted if i do recall correctly..

Yeah that's the long episode/movie 'The Untold Story' where Stewie meets his future self. In the future Meg is Ron. They don't give much info on it though, but yeah it seems accepted. In the end of the ep the current Meg says buh-bye to some guy named Ron and then goes 'Hmm I like that name..'..

I haven't seen the ep in the OP yet, but I really adore the show - big fan of the sometimes harsh humour.

You know, I just read a post somewhere where someone was raging about how horribly transphobic the episode was and was urging people to try and get it "banned".
So I did what any rational, intelligent, thinking person would do, and I watched it, so I could form my own, informed, opinion.

And you know what, I Liked it.

The jokes were plentiful, but they were quickly diffused by how simply straightforward and natural Ida was as a character.
The excessive vomiting was a -.- moment. (You know, "ugh, this joke is poor, why is it in here?" sort of an emotional response... just... bland...)
But what really made the episode is that she was accepted by Quagmire, and heck, even that "last word" by Brian sounded a bit like he was over it. *shrug*
It just seemed to be rather well handled, all things considered.

And I mean, It's Family Guy! They make a point out of going "too far".
They make jokes that you hate yourself for laughing at because you'd have to be a really low person to laugh that hard. I mean..
Expecting them to pull of THIS positive a message would practically be expecting a miracle...
And they did pull it off.

So yeah...

Love it.

I think its unfortunate that some children will see it and use it to make jokes and ridicule others. Children may not be able to make the finer distinction between satire and simply reinforcing negative stereotypes.

But really anyone who would have sex with a dog gets what they get, no matter their gender status. So Brian puked. Ida probably got fleas, or worse.

Side note I know kids watch it. BUT its not intended for children and anyone letting their kids watch it most likely are already not very nice or liberal people. Just my thoughts

Or really all that intelligent for that matter.

Is like people who give their eight year olds free access to their own facebook accounts (facebook's supposed to be 13+ too) and then leave their credit cards laying around... *whistles innocently*

Yeah I agree with you on every aspect now Miniar.  I guess I got upset cuz I watched it with my room mate and his reactions were definitely more anti-SRS, and I really want him to be able to accept the crossdressing part of my life.  I by no means think that this or any other episode of about any show should be banned for controversial content

The excessive vomit was filler, like the peter/chicken fights. But I agree that was OTT, and they could have picked something more amusing.
But considering it's FOX, and in the clevland show they  briefly portrayed a mtf prostitute (who clevland jr referred to as "sir"), i was more surprised how NON offensive it was.
The '->-bleeped-<- jokes' are to be expected, but they got some of their facts straight (though timeline not so much o.O) and didn't treat Ida like a freakshow on jerry Springer.

tl,dr; it's FAMILY GUY what do you expect?

I went and watched it right after I seen this topic.
In all honestly, I belive they are still making fun on the topic. I few jokes ill admit I laughed at. But I recon they were trying to pick fun.

I love Family Guy

Even though my brother says it is more offensive than South Park (I still don't understand that part), I still love it. We both crack up at it

Though in my opinion the show is getting less funnier just like most other cartoons. Including South Park and The Simpsons and Futurama

Just my other opinion but it seems that the newer a show gets, the less good it gets.

Rolf - get that from the 3rd Kraftwerk record, Ralf und Florian?  Just kidding, that's obscure even for me.

Yeah, things are a lot harder to sustain then to get going.  You lose a lot of enthusiasm (or youth) and you use up your best ideas up front, so the further you go, the more you have to reach - hence Fonzi jumping the shark in a leather coat.

But I'm with your brother, if by offensive he means (as most do) sexual, semi-sexual and body fluid humor.  If vomit, poop, pee, pus are funny, then Family Guy is direct from the gods.  It's going to be hard for anyone to ever get much grosser than Brian doing a rim job on Stewie after Stewie pooped himself.  That's pretty gross.

South Park goes after a lot more stuff than cheep sexual references (and hey, gigidy, gigidy nothing wrong with cheep sexual references) political, social and cultural stuff, and they really go after the cult of celebrity in a big way too.  (And more power to them for that too.)  But South Park offends people in a non-sexual, non-gross way, and face it, half the people in this nation are too frickin stupid to get half the real jokes on South Park anyway.  But Family Guy, they once put a reference to a Cleveland Steamer into a bit about Louis and Meg being street walking prostitutes as Peter fantasies about picking them up.  That pretty far out there too.

she was accepted by Quagmire
What's that saying, that Quagmire thought he might get lucky with her.  Like he is all that picky?  Hell, the crack of dawn is not safe around him.  He's like John Fitzgerald Kennedy for crying out loud.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Brian doing a...wha? Ok I haven't seen that yet O_O Or if I have I don't remember it (I haven't seen the newest episodes yet)

I think the only part of offensive me and my brother find is when it involves like religion, incest, some sex stuff, ect. Family Guy doesn't dwell on that as much as South Park really...

I dunno..It just seems South Park seems to put more effort in being offensive than Family Guy. But that's just me

And has anyone seen the Kanye West episode of South Park?  :icon_weee:

(And I dunno what 3rd Kfraftwerk is o.o)
