For the draft

I was wondering if anyone knows if when you now have an M under your SS number, do they mail you something for the selective service, or do you have to do it yourself?

Men who do not register could be prosecuted and, if convicted, fined up to $250,000 and/or serve up to five years in prison. In addition, men who fail to register with Selective Service before turning age 26, even if not prosecuted, will become ineligible for:

Student Financial Aid - including Pell Grants, College Work Study, Guaranteed Student/Plus Loans, and National Direct Student Loans.
U.S. Citizenship - if the man first arrived in the U.S. before his 26th birthday.
Federal Job Training - The Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) offers programs that can train young men for jobs in auto mechanics and other skills. This program is only open to those men who register with Selective Service.
Federal Jobs - men born after December 31, 1959 must be registered to be eligible for jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government and the U.S. Postal Service.

so what if I register now while im under the age requirement and then when i get a surgery itll all be taken care of, also i posted something about the military and apparently transmen cant serve in the military but what if there was a draft and we were called up what would happen would they even find out that ur werent born with the parts.

you wouldn't be able to go, but you still would have to register.

And I don't think you can do it until you are 18, otherwise your not legal to sign it.

I googled for the link and filled it out and it says i'm already registered.  Maybe they automatically do it when they change your SS number or your voter's registration..? hm.

you may register at 17 years and 3 months.

Any FTM is never required to registered unless U.S. will get more progressive legistlation conserning  the draft registry.

Not sure if they do it on the two you listed, but they automatically do it when you get an M on your driver's license.

I would rather there be NO registration for anyone.  No one said a FTM is required BTW.

While an FtM will never be forced to serve under a draft call up [you're medically unfit under the current standards, and therefore considering 5A- ineligable], you do need to register to avoid the aforementioned issues of not being able to obtain federal benefits from various sources.

I was not aware you were automatically registered when you changed your gender with SS.  That's good to know.

However, I'll be 27 [at least] before my gender is legally male.  I guess I'll cross my fingers that 8 years of military service is sufficient as to explain my lack of having registered for the draft?

Just request a Status Information Letter when you change your gender with the feds. It takes a long time to get it right now--possibly because a lot of people applied for part-time Census jobs and needed SILs--but the wait time should go back down soon. It's good to have the letter in case you need it later.
