Heyas.
Ok, this is a trans and job related topic. Ever since I was little, my dream was to be in the air force, or a policeman. My counseler says theres no way, no freaking way, I can get into the air force, cuz the don't ask don't tell is still -kinda- in effect, and is also true for transgender peoples. But then again, she thought the capital of China was Budapest  ::). She also seemed to forget that i live in canada (And china) not america like she did. Anyways would a person like myself would be able to join a branch of the military? How about a police officer? Cuz its the only thing i can think i'd even enjoy, otherwise i might just turn out as some failure of an artist, living in my nightmare house (my mother house) for the rest of my life.
*Sigh*... I think my brain is a masochist. Cuz I know those branches of work are definately not the best chose for me... But oh well, at least then I may finally get some guts and thick skin.  :)

Yes, there are transmen in the Canadian military; it would appear that the laws were amended in 1992.

You may find that entering the exact phrase "What is the Canadian military's policy on transgendered people serving?" into a Google bar (.com or .ca) will provide a link to a Yahoo Answers page on the subject.

While it is entirely possible that your enemy entertains some irrational prejudice against you, for which you bear no responsibility... have you entertained the possibility that you are wrong?

Your therapist is odd. Don't Ask Don't Tell isn't even about transsexuals at all. It's strictly about sexual orientation. Even with it being repealed trans people won't be allowed in the US military. And how can she just "forget" that you're not in America? That is kind of useless.

I can't tell you for sure about Canada (or China), but on Successful Transmen there is a U.S. Police officer featured (Stephen Thorne, about 1/4 of the way down, on the left) and I remember reading about a transguy in the Chicago police force, as well.  I imagine it depends upon exactly where you live, how much of an issue it will be with your fellow officers, but if they can manage to do it in the U.S., I imagine they can in Canada (Canada being much more socially liberal.)
