Filmmaker Jeremiah Newton remembers his time with New York transgender icon Candy Darling as his film tribute to her comes to Sydney's Film Festival.

Independent film producers often speak passionately about their work – and with good reason, it takes a fair amount of blood, sweat and tears to get a film made. But beyond evident passion, a great deal of emotion colours the voice of New York's Jeremiah Newton when he speaks of Beautiful Darling, a documentary portrait of Andy Warhol muse Candy Darling which is about to have its Australian premiere at the Sydney Film Festival.

Darling was a very close friend of Newton's and the film is a personal, moving tribute to an artist who transformed his life, and the lives of all who knew her.
