I was having a very rough time semi-recently. I visited an ex that I was friends with and was called "she" repeatedly by her for the first time ever (we've known each other for at least 3 years). It bummed me out a lot but I kept on whistling "always look on the bright side of life" (10 awesome points to anybody that gets the reference). Well, it seems that things are finally turning up. My apologizes if this sounds like me boasting or being full of myself. I can say that up until recently there hasn't been much in the way of positive progress in my transition and now that things are working in my favor I feel the need to shout it from the roof tops.
There's this woman that I am attracted to and I think she's into me or at the least we are good friends. I met her mother for the first time somewhat recently. She told her mother that I was a gay man and assumed she wouldn't understand the whole "transgender thing." I've never had a positive experience with other people's families so I started fidgeting, zipped up my hoodie, etc. While I was out of the room she talked to her mother for a few seconds. From what I've been told the conversation was something like "hey, so Kyle i-" "You never told me he was a transsexual." All in all it turned out great. Her mother is very welcoming of me, and asked my friend questions about surgery, transition and all that stuff while I wasn't at their home. Pretty much within a few minutes I was welcomed completely by her mother. Today I was told by this same friend that her mother invited me to go with their family (my friend, brother and his kids, and their parents) on vacation with them. I was also offered a place to sleep when we go see Lady Gaga next month. All in all REALLY GREAT STUFF!
There was also progress with friends of mine from high school that knew me pre-male identity. I hung out with two cis-women that are straight. They were very respectful, didn't ask questions and all that jazz. That same night I met up with an old friend from an LGBT youth center I attended/worked at. She was a bit confused asked about "the surgery" I informed her and she pushed me to get a job working with her because they're LGBT friendly.
All in all some great stuff happening for myself...about time! Anybody else want to discuss some good/positive/kick ass stuff going on in their lives that they need to cheer about?
