Legal name change while in debt

I'm trying to get as much information as I can. I know that if a person is in a lot of debt they can be denied a legal name change. Has anybody here been denied a legal name change because of debt? What amount would be considered enough to deny a name change?

You swear under oath that you are not changing your name for fraud.  If yo do it is a felony under law.

You are obligated to notify your creditors.

I had a HEAP of debt when I changed my name but it never came up.. I filled out the form, showed up in court and the judge signed the order, no questions asked. I stated, as the reason for the name change: "So that my name is more appropriate for my appearance." In my state, the petition for a name change is posted in the legal section of the newspaper... To the best of my knowledge, someone (i.e. a creditor) would have to see the posting, show up in court and object to the name change in order for the judge to deny it. A criminal background check is also done as part of the process.. If you don't have a record, your personal debt might not come up at all.

I suppose that it depends upon the jurisdiction, but as long as you continue to pay the debts I doubt if any creditor would really care about your name. They just want their money repaid.
