Just had a chat with a nurse who has specific training in hygine issues.
She says that, once more serious possibilities have been ruled out, the cause of most of these problems is excessive washing, inappropriate underwear, especially too tight, loose cotton is apparently recommended and excessive treatments, creams, sprays and such.
It seems this area cultivates its own colonies of yeasts which should normally be kept in balance. When one gets out of hand, some problems start. Another problem, apparently, is that, since we tend to wear underwear, yeasts and such, coming out of our bowel, which is perfectly normal, can be held in there.
Normal social washing should be sufficient. mild hand soap. Loose cotton underwear and if possible, going without sometimes.
