has anyone been able to get t without going to therapy? i'm kind of against the therapy approach well i do not think its for everyone...personally i did not like it. i went to therapy for 3 months and i do not think i benefited from it...i do not want to be labeled with gender identity disorder because i do not feel that i have a disorder. everyone makes it sound like i have to do all this therapy but its not always true. i just got my chest surgery on thursday without a letter or any therapy...all i had to do was send some emails to surgeons and make a few phone calls. my next goal is to get t without therapy...i want to at least look into it but i do not even know where to start. if anyone has any info or has done it let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Well...hmmmm
You are going to have to find a doctor or clinic that will treat you with informed consent. Start asking around your local trans comunity.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Check with your local LGBT support groups/clinics, as they can sometimes point you in the right direction.

I do feel that for some people, the therapy is necessary and valuable. But no, not for everyone. I don't like all the hoops we are forced to jump through just to become ourselves.

There's another thread around here on this topic. Well, probably a few threads.

Someone had success with Planned Parenthood. You could search the site for that.

Who did your top surgery w/o a letter from a therapist?

I'm on T w/o an official T letter via informed consent. All my doc needed was a letter saying I'd been to some sort of therapy, not necessarily therapy for "GID". Some docs don't even require that. Wouldn't hurt to call around to some endos and ask if they do informed consent.

i went to dr. sherman leis in philadelphia pa. he was the closest surgeon i could find to ohio that doesnt require any letters for top surgery. im actually in philly right now, still havent seen my chest yet but i should get my stitches out soon. i did a lot of research on his work when i was looking for a surgeon and all his results that i have seen look really good. but so far i'm really impressed...i will post an update when i actually get to see my chest without bandages on

Leo you know who that is. I dont know if he wants his name on here but he is a fellow king that I know you have seen if not talked to. And ya the doc we go to does do informed consent if you can prove what you are doing and such.

If you're in Philly still they have an awesome LGBT health center that provides hormones based on informed consent. It's not too expensive and they don't have much of a cost. I don't know what is available in Ohio.

There are places that doesn't really require a therapist's consent in order to get on to T. I know of a few legit Southern California based clinics and medical places that does this. However I do not know about top surgery.

Right now I am currently seeing a therapist about being transexual and all (and it's been going pretty well). I hope to get on to T in October at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center. It really just depends on where you go. I'm sure there are places you can find by just googling it.

Either way, best of luck mate!
