I'm so excited! Today I finally went to see my doctor to ask for a referral to a Gender Identity Clinic. I'm based in the UK, and a referral to the nearest GIC is pretty much the first step to starting transition.

I am lucky to have a fantastic GP, and also a lovely girlfriend, who was happy to come and back me up in case I forgot everything I'd so carefully prepared to say.

However, I was a little worried when my GP, after listening to everything I had to say, looked a bit perplexed and asked 'Oh, is there a GIC near here?' I pointed out it was about 5 miles up the road, and gave her the address. She then admitted she hadn't a clue how to proceed, and Googled the GIC details I'd given her...hmmmmmmmmm.

Still, she was supportive, and promised to find out what we need to do next, and let me know, so I came away feeling positive! Finally I have actually made a concrete step in the right direction, and it feels fab.

I also made the big scary step this week of giving in my notice at work. I am a Secondary (High?) School teacher, and there's no way I want to attempt RLE in front of a thousand kids and their parents. As I don't actually enjoy the job anyway, I've decided to leave, and find a job where I can just deal with a small group of people. I have told them I'm leaving at Christmas, so it's not immediate and I'll have time to find an alternative job. This, and finally opening up to my doctor has made me feel so much lighter.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
