I often seen trans women refer to their male-mode selves in the third person. Sometimes they do the same with their female-mode selves. I find this vaguely disturbing for no reason I can put my finger on, but if it works for them, who am I to argue with it?

Just in case you don't think of your male-mode self in the third person, and in case you don't consider yourself to be a male-bodied person with a little girl trapped inside, well, I never did either. That metaphor might be useful to some. Not to me.
