A South Florida woman has broken down barriers for transsexuals by being approved for an individual health insurance policy.

Although the 56-year-old woman is in good physical and mental health, she found it nearly impossible to obtain health insurance. The reason: She completed gender reassignment surgery six months ago.

Only Humana Health Insurance, through its Humana One individual division, provided the woman with comprehensive individual health coverage following the usual application process, including a complete physical and laboratory tests.
