I agree less is more, if your goal is to blend into society as a member of your chosen gender.
I realized this when, after doing yard work in my bib overalls, cut off t-shirt and chucka boots, I went on an errand for a friend, to return some merchandise to a store.
I knew I looked like crap but I didnt care, I just wanted to get my work done so I could relax
As part of the store's return policy, the young teen clerk asked to see my I.D.. I handed it to her, she looked at it then handed it back and said no ma'am I need to see YOUR I.D.
I smiled and said " Sweety, that is my I.D."
"I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So let's make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we're together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?" - Fred Rogers

There's a joke that goes, in a group of women how can you tell which one is trans, and the answer is she's the one in a skirt & blouse. I think people subconsciously make that association, which is unfortunate. I wish I could wear long skirts & nice tops more often but most places that would just stand out.  :-\

As funny as that is I know it's true.  When I was married I almost had to beg my wife to get dolled up, even for the dressiest occasions.  She just didn't like attracting attention to herself.  And when I think about my four sisters, most of them prefer ultra casual to dressy.

I've heard many times that less is more and each time I apply that rule I find it's true.  Funny thing is I have been preaching that to other girls and when I didn't follow the rule and got clocked I got all upset.  If I was in grade school my teacher would have me at the chalkboard writing "I won't get all dolled up" a hundred times.

When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

True.  One doesn't see that many women wearing skirts and tops or blouses anymore.  At work, I wore a skirt or suit once or twice a week and slacks the rest of the time.  Now that I'm back home, it's mostly jeans and tops or sweaters.  To do otherwise would earn one stares at the very least.

Dress up is reserved for formal nights on cruise and maybe for church.

One nice thing is that, once one is full time, it 'ain't' the clothes anymore.  It's being yourself that gives the pleasure.

As I've said, Julie, you're drop dead gorgeous in any clothes you choose.

Or for when your man is coming to town.

Melissa, you are too funny!  If anything I dress down!  I have been known to be in the hot tub when he comes home from a long week's work.  Now we have a rule about what not to wear in the hot tub.......

The only times I have been clocked are when I wear a short sleeve dress or top without a wrap or something to cover my arms. Something I did many, many years ago before I accepted who and what I am was body building, one advantage I did come out with are very tone legs :)
