what happens if I get a binder thats a little too big

the binder I want would be 3 inches too big, would it not bind correctly even with a size difference that small?

3 inches is a pretty enormous size difference. It likely wouldn't bind much, ft at all. In general, most of us end up wearing binders in either the correct size or a size too small.

(just for reference: my binder only reduces my chest circumference by a little less than 4 inches, and I have fairly soft tissue that compresses a lot. So if it was 3 inches too big, it would do almost nothing.)
