Hiya all.x.

I have fairly thick eyebrows and if i wish to thin them out, how do i do this?

Can i pluck them...shape them myself?

I am not too keen on going to a saloon and having them done...

Any tips or advise please..

thanks..Paul/Simone.x.

Waxing is probably your best alternative and actually not that uncommon for guys to have done anymore.  I suppose it depends on how much you want waxed off, boy or girl there is such a thing as too much, but any place that does waxing should be able to accomodate you.

Having had my eyebrows waxed in transition and in guy mode, I can't tell the difference.

Yes it hurts, but no worse then ripping off a really big band-aid.

My wife bought me these eyebrow shaper things from Walmart I think. I haven't tried them yet but they look easy enough to use. I guess you pick the one that has the size eyebrow you're going for and it trims and shapes to that size. It looks simple enough. You might want to check those out too in addition to considering the salon.

  Hi all,
Thick eyebrows!!!  The bane of the CD!!!
However, there is hope!  #1, we tend to have really long eyebrow hairs.  So one of those little trimmers powered by a 'AA' battery does wonders!!!  (Use the Longer side of the trimmer....)  That eliminates all the hairs that make you look like Andy Rooney on 60 minutes!!!
Fortunately Brooke Shields is still sporting thick eyebrows!!  So they are still in.
At the shop you get your hair cut, just ask them to 'clean up' your eyebrows.  They will wax off the hairs from under your brow bone and then you can tweeze to keep them that way.  I tweeze every morning, some days only 3-5 hairs, some days an entire forest.
If you have a GF or and SO tell them you want to look better like Ryan sechrest or something.  They'll help.
So there are a few ideas   see what you think.
  Hugs,
  Lisa Elizabeth

Wow, I'm surprised more people don't tweeze...

Just my opinion, but I think tweezing is by far the easiest, cheapest and least painless method.

Of course, you have to have an idea of what the brows should look like, and it took me a long time to find the shape that works best for me, BUT once the brows are mostly in the right shape, it just takes a little attention every day or so to keep them that way.

After a short while, tweezing does NOT hurt. I've been doing it for 2-3 years now (I used a razor before that) and I can honestly say that it's just about painless for me (the follicles get "used" to being plucked, I guess). And this is coming from someone with sensitive skin -- I can only take a half-hour electrology session at a time (8 times a month to make up the time). My electrologist has even told me that my skin gets very red compared to her other clients.

If you go this route, at least invest in a good tweezer (spend $6.00). Also, surgical scissors are good for trimming the brow hair length. Doing it right after a shower (when the pores are open) is best, and I should say that it was uncomfortable at first, but after a while it's a cinch.

Send me a message if you want to try it and need some tips on shaping.

I pluck my brows myself.  I actually check for stray hairs as part of my daily routine so to keep them nice.  usually I'll find anywhere between 3-10 hairs, sometimes a bit more, but not often.  To get a good shape, I went to:
http:// www . cosmeticscop.com/learn/article.asp?PAGETYPE=ART&REFER=MAKEUP&ID=44

That has a good guide that I used to get a good shape.

P & S,
things i do not recommend:
Lighter fluid or anything flamable...
anything that will stain....
anything with really sharp edges...
drinking before you attempt any of the above... :icon_blah:
Course there is always:
Tweezing
Waxing
waxing or tweezing...
I got into a bad habit of running shaving clippers over them to trim-never do this now its a maintenance issue!
I do buy the eyebrow wax strips kits to gently shape every few weeks..
They work for a while!

Same as you Melissa.
Plunking works great for me.
My wife has it done at the place she gets her hair cut. Sometime it looks good and sometimes not. But she hate to pluck them out herself and won't use one of the store kits.

Generaly Im very good at waxing my eyebrows free hand (95% done wrongZ) you just follow the shape of your eye socket and guess what, near perfect eyebrows..... next you go back and do the top area, mainly try again to follow the natural shape of the eyebrows and only take 1-2 full rows of hairs.... the strays and the peachfuzz dont count....

Im going to try and do a vidio for you all..... and well post it when Im done.

PS: I use surgi wax, brazilian for any stray hairs anywhere,,,,, (specialy the face)

I am going to differ from my sisters...

I suggest going to a salon and saying that you want your brows "neatened."  THis will thin you brows without going over the edge.  Once you have the brows cleaned up once or twice, then you can start plucking and maintain the shape.

I used those eye brow trimmers my wife picked up this morning just to trim the ends and near the eye. I cut probably about 10 to 15 hairs off and went to climb into bed. My wife started staring at my face when I got into bed and asked me what was different. I said I just trimmed a little off the ends with the trimmers. She said it looks great. Apparently trimming (and assumably plucking) a little goes a long way for improving.
