Ok so I'm finally going to get to see a therapist this Wednesday, after constantly reminding my mom to call her insurance. My mom's been awesome in this all, she's even letting me use her 3 free visits and $20 co payments until I'm a full-time employee at work, which then I'll have full benefits.

But I did have a question. Do you think it'll actually take about 3 months to get my therapist to write me a T letter? For guys on t, did it usually take that long? Maybe I'm just being anxious, but what about surgery? Any guys who had top surgery before T, about how long did it take for your therapist to write a letter for that?

that's awesome. and I feel like I've heard some ftm's say they got the ok for t after 2 or 3 sessions. (no personal experience), but It probably depends on the therapist. I also read some wear that often ftm's can move faster than mtf's because by the time they end up in therapy they are "farther along." I guess in terms of living as men?

Thanks, yea don't get me wrong, I don't want to see a therapist just to get letters, but I've just always been the impatient type lol which I should probably work on. But I can understand about the "farther along" concept. I've been presenting full-time for like a year and a half now

It completely depends on the therapist and how far you've taken the process yourself.

If you've been living full time for a while (including name change) it shouldn't take long to get a T letter. I got mine after one session seeing as before that I'd had 2 years of documented RLE.

If your therapist isn't a specialised gender therapist it will take a lot longer. They will be more wary of prescribing if they aren't familiar with the process and are much more likely to follow the SOC rigidly.

I haven't had my name changed yet, I've been looking into how Florida goes about it, but the only thing is all the new laws here like with our DL, my mom couldn't even get her address changed on hers without her marriage certificate and birth certificate.

I'm the extremely inpatient type too (here's to being ADHD). I got T on informed consent or who knows what/where I'd be now (out of my mind). I think it depends on how comfortable the therapist is with where you are in your transition, how sure you are of it (how they percieve this in you I mean), and their level of experience with trans patients, etc. One of my friends saw a therapist and she assumed he was already on T so was willing ot write a T letter after 3 sessions but since he wasn't she waited til 7 sessions and took her time cause he wasn't in a hurry.

Congrats man, its about 400 dollars to legally change your name in florida.  You go through court just like anyone would to change their name, not sure about changing your gender marker in Florida because I was born in IL.  I'm in St. Petersburg myself, are you close?

@zombies yea I have ADD, so my patience is almost non-existent lol but I guess I'll have to see how my first couple of sessions go and keep in mind the informed consent route

That's funny, I was born in IL too, chicago. I'm in St. Augustine, I used to go to St. Petes every summer. And wow $400 really?
