The funds had been raised as gate donations at The Sister's annual Pink Saturday block party, each night before the Pride Parade. Sister Dionna Cross was in charge of the funds distribution, naming each of the recipients and their individual missions.
First on the list was Amor Sin Fronteras, which began six years ago, aiming to create safe spaces that celebrate, respect, and politicize the Latin LGTBQ community. "Our grant is helping them with their Latin Queer Pride celebration in Dolores Park on Sept. 19," Sister Dionna explained. The San Francisco Sex Worker Film and Arts Festival will be their 7th successful event. "Funds will be used for outreach, artist support, training ... and maybe a big orgy," Sister Dionna jested at the end. Native American AIDS Project is one of the country's most comprehensive HIV/AIDS programs for Native Americans. The Sisters' grant will help fund the "taking care of the tribe pow wow," as Dionna put it. The Vista Youth center in Kennewick, WA is an LGBTQ youth center that provides fun and a complete package of services including the Drag School Program that The Sisters are helping sponsor.
