How can I deal with my family and my hair?

I am in a situation which arises every time my hair grows to a certain length, and then my family (mother and grandmother) criticizes about it daily. This event has happened six times within my life since I been trying to grow my hair out longer since I was about 14. Now I am 18  and it now has about 4 month growth, and I want to grow it "long" again. It never grows longer than this, which is really short when in comparison to "real" long hair.

Now they want me to cut it again, and I told them I would, because of "senior" year book pictures. I told them I would pay for mine, and I bought my yearbook for the year. Still complaining, I told them I will before the pictures. The deal is I have no freedoms here, work, and I gave my mother 1.4 k since I had a job.

I know they are going to complain if I don't, and I believe the only solution is for me is to just ignore them and get the pictures done without their input. Then get out of this home once I graduated. Or break down and cut the hair again, and then grow it again.

My hair is really a big deal at my home, everything is really, but it's just huge deal with them.

Try to change their perspective on long hair.  There's nothing criminal about it, they just don't like it on you.  Find out why.  You need to know that if you are going to change their perspective.  Show them pictures of guys with long hair, especially celebrities.  Don't get upset when they complain, just let them know this is a personal choice and hurts no one.

Yeah, I'd ask them why they care.

You're legally an adult, you should be able to make decisions on anything you want and hair length is such a minor drop in the bucket compared to other things they could be worrying about.

I've NEVER liked getting my haircut.   I remember being 4 years old sitting in a barber chair crying as loud as I could because I was getting my hair cut.    My mom always insisted I get it cut though.    When I was, hmm ... 19, I finally realized that I was old enough to make my own decisions and told her to leave me alone about the hair.  And she eventually relaxed about it.   

She still asks me occasionally why I like my hair long, but I think that's because she knows I'm TS and wants to open a dialog about it.   I just haven't been ready for that conversation, though.

I say ignore them! I've always wanted long hair and I hated getting it cut but my dad would always tease me then when I'd get it cut he'd tell me how much nicer it looked. I always hated looking at myself after a haircut

Yeah I am going to have to ignore them, they make a big deal about it because they think it looks ugly. Although I think my grandma doesn't like it because of it being transgendered or girly by saying, "Do you want to become a girl is that why you're growing your hair". My mother doesn't like it because she thinks I look sloppy and bad on me.

Make sure you wash your hair regularly. Have it brushed and combed and looking neat. Put it into a ponytail, guy one if you have too. Grandma is after you for being girly? I thought she knew? Mum may just think you look like a sloppy guy, sorry , don't mean it rudely. Lots of males your age have long hair (sorry don't know where you live BTW) in most  cities. A TG having long hair is a situation to demand acceptance. You could always tell them you will get it dyed platinum blonde if they don't get off your case, and see what happens?
