Is Florida in as bad a state as this guy claims?
Is what he says partly true?
Or is he just whacked?

When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

Just looks like another paranoid redneck to me.  There is truth in what he says, but much of it is exaggerated.

The water issues are true.  There has been restricted water usage for a few years now - rules about when you can water your lawns during summer for example.

I believe the beach issues are an exaggeration.  I've not seen any real change in the beach closeby and I've lived here most of my life.

Crime? Depends on where you live.  As with anywhere else.

There is a large population of Spanish-speakers, but to my knowledge they are mostly around Miami and Orlando.  Whether they are illegal or not is anybody's guess.

Property taxes have been going up... albeit randomly for the last 15 years at least, but I don't pay much attention because I live in an apartment and will for the foreseeable future.

Hurricane looting?  Maybe in some areas.  I think he's exaggerating though.  My area has been hit by maybe 1-2 cat 3 or higher in the last 30 years according to the NHC website.  Nobody smart leaves their homes unless it's at least a cat 3.

Wildlife can be a problem, but you just have to be smart.  The out of control snakes and gators are probably a much larger problem closer to the Everglades, but you can't be stupid and just go swimming in a random lake either.  Florida is a swamp, regardless of what development has been done (this is why we have mosquitos too, they're only bad during the summer when it rains enough to give them lots of breeding grounds).  I occasionally hear about attacks, but animal control is always on top of it very quickly.

Some locals might hate your guts, but that can be said for anywhere else.

I personally would not move here, but that's because I've lived here for so long that I'm probably going to move within the next 5 years and experience somewhere different.  Florida certainly has its share of problems, but you can write a website like that about almost anywhere.

I grew up in N. Florida and my family still lives there.

His talking points have certain validity, but his justification is uhm ... not quite right.   He's purposely trying to discourage people from moving into the state because South FL is getting so overcrowded.   His perspective seens very focused on the Miami/Dade population area.  I wouldn't be suprised if he still lives there.

There's always been water issues, but in S. Florida a lot of their water comes from the lakes.   With so many people moving there, the lakes are loosing water and not getting replenished.  The Aquafur in N. FL isn't so bad, but it's starting to feel some strain.

I'm with Kieri.   I don't think I could move back there.  The economy is based primarily on either Tourism or Education (Colleges).   One of the reasons the Oil Spill in the Gulf is so damaging is because there aren't as many people coming to the state, so a vast majority of their economy along the coastline has died.   I also wouldn't move back because it's a million degrees down there in the summer.   Who want's to walk around in that? :)
