Whats the big deal?

My mom and I got into a argument about my drivers license. She doesn't think its a big deal if my gender marker is changed or not, because apparently "Nobody looks at it". Well, its important to me, and i want it changed. I know how to change it, SRS isn't required here in michigan. The thing is, my mom said my doctor won't write a letter for the secretary of state office. I don't know if shes just trying to bring me down, or if my doctor really won't write me a letter.

So, i want to call my doctor, ( I know she won't answer, the receptionist will ) but i don't know what to say. I figured it would go something like this,
"Hi this is Damian ______ and i would like my doctor, Dr. _______________, to write a letter for me to the secretary of states office to change my gender marker on my drivers license. "

Or is that all wrong? I'm so nervous i don't know what to say! But apparently, on susans wiki, you have to undergo treatment (Testosterone..perhaps?) to get your drivers license changed, but my doctor diagnosed me with Homosexuality and Transgendered (Thats what the paper said!) so i'm thinking since i've been diagnosed with this..haha..and i could add i'm seeing a gender therapist, that this could all work. and that i plan to be on testosterone by this time next year.

your doctor "diagnosed" you with homosexuality? I don't even know what to say to that other than....get a new doctor.

I'm pretty sure you have to at least be on T before they will change your marker even if you're in a state where surgery isn't required

In Ohio they don't require T, surgery, or a name change even.

I'm on T, but my name change won't be legal until Sept 30th. I filed my gender change papers before my name change.

All I had to do was have my therapist fill out a paper from the bmv's website that says this person is undergoing....I forget what it said exactly. Blah blah blah. Therapist/psychologist or doctor can sign it. Send it off and in about a month they send you back a paper saying to go get your corrected ID.

If you google your state's regulations...you should come up with a form. Or you may have to call them for it. The paper should say exactly what it requires.

I'm curious as to why he "diagnosed" you as gay? I assume you like other men? Cause if I were you....and my doc had put that down if I were attracted to females (which I'm not, but regardless) I would flip a lid. I think you need  a new doctor man.

I was pissed off when he diagnosed me with "Homosexuality", i mean, what the hell? That isnt a disease,  WTF? My mom didn't really care for it, and i dont have another doctor around here that accepts me insurence, and accepts new people..but yeah i'll google the state regulations and such, thanks.

I'm pretty shocked that homosexuality needs a diagnosis now!  Anyway, I have had my driving licence changed with just a letter from the doctor and I am pre-T.  But this is in the uk.  My doctor was really nice about writing the letter and although it was typed up with the wrong pronouns (despite him saying it right into the dictophone when I was there - probably a receptionist typing) it still worked fine for the purpose.  Also used it to change my details at the bank.

o rly?

Both the DVLA and my bank are the only people who refuse to change my marker and title. I'm Mr and Male everywhere except these two places who are demanding a gender recognition certificate....and an amended birth certificate in the case of the DVLA.

What? My bank and the DVLA changed my title at the same time they changed my name. All they needed was my deed poll and letter from the gender clinic. I'm Mr everywhere but not yet listed as male by the DWP or Tax Office because I was told they need a GRC. They refer to me as Mr but still have me as female, which gets messy sometimes when I have to call them.

Golly!  Never heard of anyone being openly diagnosed as homosexual since about 1970.  Your doctor is probably Fred Phelps doctor too. But one of the shrink's I've seen here in Uk did write on a report 'Lilac prefers submissive role in the few encounters she has had with men'. Which is just saying I'm gay!  LOL

If he's the only choice you have then just take a deep breath and make the call as you've posted.  There will be a long pause while it sinks in.
But.  don't you have to pay for doctors letters?

Legally they are breaking the law to demand to see yoru GRC.  Write to the Chief Executive of both and tell them that.

They should address you as male and you can pay your taxes as male in your new name - but the DWP will definitely need to see your GRC before they pay your pension.  They shouldn't really but they are very discreet and will put a marker on your file so that it can only be accessed by senior managers - so in fact it is a benfit to you.

Um...what??  You are in the uk right?  What bank are you with?   They don't need a GRC, I think that's just to change your birth certificate.  You can change your passport as well I think, but haven't bothered yet.  I never go abroad!

Okay, heres the deal..
I went up to the secretary of states office (Also a dmv), and told her i wanted my gender marker changed. The lady told me that to be able to do that, i need my birth certificate changed first. In order to get my birth certificate changed, i have to undergo gender surgery..(Here in the state of michigan that is). but i read online that many FTM's have undergone top sugery and bottom surgery, and the state wouldn't allow them to change their birth certificate, so i'm just going to apply for a new birth certificate and put M for male. If i don't get caught, yay. if i do get caught, ->-bleeped-<-. LOL

Wow, dude. Good luck. Like I said..Ohio won't change the gender on the BC yet, but we can still get our DL changed. Since I was born in Ohio I'm screwed, unless they change their stuff or I appeal.
I seriously thought about marking M on my new DL form when my name is changed....but luckily I got my papers back before I lost it completely :D

sucky news damian =[ I'm so glad I'm not american, it'd drive me nuts to have all these different rules for each state. Must be so confusing.

I figured my bank and license thing were just a given, I probably should have asked here before giving up

I'm with alliance and leicester, they wouldn't even change my name on my account. I've argued with them on several occasions with the whole "ok fine whatever, don't change the title or gender, don't care, just the name, here's my deed poll" - ....but this is a boys name...you need a GRC *head explodes* This has happened at like 5 different branches too. Tried to do it by post...they sent my documents back with a letter saying I needed the GRC.

Hilariously enough they let me open a brand new account in my new name and with the right gender with no question, but then when I tried to activate it (which is a phone job) they didn't believe I was the account holder because of my voice so I still can't use the bloody account :D
