Last I heard, camh is the only clinic that has Ohio coverage for GRS. I have read several reviews in the clinic and most haven't been very good. That last one I read today mentioned another place also in Toronto. So now I'm wondering if this other place can offer Ohip coverage?? It sounds better there.

Currently the only gatekeepers to Ohip covered surgery is through CAMH, and as I've heard it is NOT easy to get.  I have heard rumors and musings that there will be new groups/people selected as gatekeepers for the Ohip funding, but that is merely speculation at this time as I can not find anything confirming this will actually come to pass.

This is a real shame as the Sherbourne is spoken of so highly (from people I know) and would be greatly preferred to CAMH.

I know someone (a friend, post-op MTF) who is currently helping to fight a human-rights case, one possible outcome of which would be that CAMH loses their sole-provider status.  Not sure how quickly other providers would come into existence, or where they'd be, but this can't help but be a positive thing.  The other thing about Sherbourne is that they only serve Toronto residents, and even at that, they have a 2-year waiting list, and also a waiting list to get on the waiting list (they are not currently taking any additional patients until everyone on both lists have been seen).  So that's the situation as I understand it.

I saw my family doctor over a month ago and asked for a referral to the CAMH GID.  So far, no indication of any forthcoming appointment, not so much as a peep.  I'm told this is expected, and to be patient - it may take months.  Meantime, I've finally found someone who seems like a good gender psychologist, and I have an appointment with her in a couple of weeks.  So hopefully I'll be able to get some things moving forward...

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I have my questionnaire from CAMH. I'm going to mail it tomorrow and hopefully get an appointment later this year. I'll try to keep an open mind about them, but there seems to be way more bad reviews than good ones.

How long did it take you to get your questionnaire?

I'm not sure exactly. I think the referral was sent out in July. So less than two months. They tried to tell me it couldn't have been sent a month ago but it was sent out after i updated my health card in early July.

Just got my CAMH questionnaire today!  So... now to fill it out and send it in.  Luckily, a girlfriend told me it'd be a good idea to write up my gender history and life story, which I've already been working on.  Just took a quick look at the requirements in their letter.  2 YEARS RLE before SRS would be recommended???  1 YEAR RLE before HRT would be recommended???  Are they freakin' KIDDING??  Luckily, I think there are other avenues (with medical supervision) to access HRT - as I've said in a different thread, I was told by a (trans) fellow at Sherbourne that my own doctor could start me on HRT, and I can give him their protocols.  I just don't know if that would jeapordize anything at CAMH, but my info suggests they may soon (probably not soon enough) lose their sole-provider status anyway.  Shoot, life sure does get interesting for us, don't it???

The hormone thing was one reason why, initially, I refused to go through Camh. I've been on estrogen since January and Spiro and Progesterone since June. I was a little concerned it might affect my chances with Camh but, I am not doing this for them or their approval. I am doing this for me and me only. I have accomplished a lot in the 12 months since I started down this journey. I have been living full time now for three months and with or without Camh, I will get my surgery done in the next couple of years. There's no point (for me anyways) in worrying whether they will or will not accept me.

Thanks, Laura.  I'm still really, really new to all this, and trying to learn what I need to know.  Just don't want to make any wrong moves that might introduce additional undue delays in the process.  That being said, neither do I want to rush things unduly.  It would be nice, if the professionals could all at least be CONSISTENT!!  Instead of everything seeming so arbitrary, and determined by who you talk to.  It's hard to have faith in a system that looks so much like either a patchwork quilt, or a giant do-it-yourself project, lol...

Sent my package into CAMH today.  Hope they contact me soon.  Laura, have you got an appointment yet?  Just wondering if it takes weeks after sending it in to get contacted, or if they set up the appointment more quickly than that?  My life story is 18 pages long, of course, I'm 54, so lots of water under the bridge, so to speak, lol...

I was told it would be at least four weeks from the time they receive the package, before ant further correspondence. Hang in there Hun :)
