THE Ah Kua Show? Oh, you mean the Aqua Show.

That's what people who attended The New York International Fringe Festival three weeks ago probably thought they heard.

The Ah Kua Show is really a first-person, three-act play by local transgendered woman Leona Lo.

It was the only Singapore offering at the event in New York.

In the local context, Ah Kua is a derogatory Hokkien term for a transsexual or transvestite.
