A Spring Arbor resident who is transgender has asked Jackson High School to cancel an "Opposite Gender Day" during homecoming week, saying it teaches students to mock people who are transgender.

There are no plans to cancel the event, said Jackson Public Schools spokeswoman A'Lynne Robinson, but school officials have met with members of the school's Gay-Straight Alliance in an effort to make sure the event is respectful.
