To Be Real...

One of the things that I think about a lot, and encounter in discussions frequently in relation to being transgender, is the idea of "realness."  Now, I'm certainly not the first trans person to comment on this, but what the hell: it's been a while since I've posted and I need something to talk about.

When I say realness, what I'm referring to is the desire to be or perception of being a "real" man or woman.  While this is certainly not a concept that was invented by the trans community, it's definitely one that has been internalized to a very large extent.  That's no surprise, of course: the idea that gender is binary has roots that go down to the very core of how we think of ourselves; in fact, the word used to describe what we are doing – that is, "transitioning" – implies a state of moving from one place to another: from male to female or female to male.

I prefer the term 'authentic'...

That's all I ever try to be personally, even if getting the body I needed to be so, needed some original model readjustments....lol

I don't much care or worry what 'others' think of me either...

Though luckily for me the people I value most, seem to like me/love me.....

What more can anyone of us ask for...?
