Dems' agenda hidden in defense bill

The Senate is gearing up to vote this week on a bill meant to involve just the military, but it includes a number of social issues.

The Defense Authorization Act holds a provision that would turn medical facilities on military bases into abortion clinics. It would also overturn the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military and allow some illegal immigrants to become citizens.

Arizona Congressman Trent Franks (R) thinks Democrats are attempting to pass this bill because they know Republicans will look bad for rejecting it.

"The reason they do that is insidious beyond my ability to describe," he laments. "They know that Republicans...are desperately committed to giving our men and women in uniform everything that they need."

Like freedom from being thrown out of the military because you are gay or lesbian? 

Yes, the Republicans are desperate alright, desperate to rid society of anything they don't understand.  In Arizona they don't understand how people of Mexican descent can actually be American citizens.  So I guess we have to give Franks a break since he's BOTH Republican AND from Arizona.  It's kind of like giving the kid who lived in the woods all his life a break for not knowing about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.
