I have a very gender-specific first name (for the time being).

What do you all do when you are out en femme with regards to ID? Do you use only cash (as I've been doing so far), or do you use debit/credit cards.

I'm not transitioning at this time, which is why this is in the Crossdresser talk section. So, I don't have "carry letters" and won't have them any time in the foreseeable future.

Any advice?

Gia

Don't worry about it.

If anything, just go get a new picture of yourself en femme.

And, go watch Dead like Me: Life after Death:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1079444/

I still use the same cards as I do when I'm a boy. I actually have a photo on my debit and credit cards. You'd be surprised how many people don't even take a few short seconds to look at your photo to verify that you're the card holder. I will be getting a State ID card pretty soon though en femme so that that aspect at least matches.

When I was still doing the part time thing, I just used my cards as they were.  Most merchants use machines and the cashiers don't even look any more.

And if they do, they don't care.  They are so bored that all they look forward to is going home.

My Name Is Ellie

I don't dress out but here we have chip and pin card readers at every checkout. The cashier sees nothing.

I dunno about formal ID though - it's Drivers License or Passport ONLY here and both show both photo and gender. :/

I've never gone out in public dressed up, so I don't entirely know what it would be like. But the shortened version of my name isn't gender specific, so if they weren't paying close attention I guess they might not notice that there is a guys name on my licence.

There's also nothing that says male on it, though I think I definitely look like a guy in the photo, even though my hair is hanging over my face a lot (I'm not sure why they allowed me to take a photo like that now that I think about it).

It has been some time since I have been out enfemme.  When I do go out I generally use cash, but most places do not care as long as you are not trying to do anything fraudulent.  I appreciate it when the store clerk asks for my ID to verify that I am the cardholder.  I also do not pass all that well so it surprises no one that the person who is wearing the skirt and makeup is a genetic male.

Thanks, all. Your replies have been encouraging.

I just use whatever is on me - cards, cash, whatever, and don't tend to sweat it too much.

If you are very passable, then you have the problem but seriously when you pay and the cashier notices you are CD, trust m,e they wont pay attention of the fact you ar cding just to see you are the person on the credit card.

the problem of id cards arises when you dont want to be identified as your real person, perhaps in the entrance of a club, or at the airport etc, well when you will start to transition you will surely already had taken care of docs and alternative ids to show when you are in girl mode.
other than that dont worry,

i had one experience, .. one of my few outings was to go to a sex shop were they sell all kind of sexy accessories and lingerie, i went enfemme, with make up and all in a very sexy minidress showing legs and wearing 5inch stiletto pumps, wear my wig and went ahead to wonder the aisles of the shop, havnt though that in the entrance the cashier was gonna asked me for my id card in order to see im not a minor, well she saw mw first and off course was not going to expect my id to show veronica, as my face is very masculine and my shoulders and arms were shown in full, i was not gonna pass never as a girl, therefore she just limited herself to check my age period, after she told me thanks and sorry, she made a remark on my shoes and my tighs, she told me they were very pretty and sexy, i said thanks. it felt good and not embarrassing, the embarrassing moment was when a guy was following me aisle per aisle looking were i was browsing after i move from location in the shop, he was obvious ly wanting to talk to me, and was looking at my legs and trying to look further more when i was bending down to reach any other merchandise in the store, it was annoying and seriously i felt like all girls feel when they are harassed by these kind of individuals.
after the guy made it obvious he was following me i change my direction and went to where he was, not wanting to confront him but to show him a cold shoulder or  maybe disgust, what i did was no really nice and not sensual, when i was walking toward him, i scratch my parts as a baseball player, and told him rudely and firmly with my man voice excuse me, in order for him to move over i was passing through, not in a way of im passing and notice me, nahhhh, i wanted to show him the man wearing heels that he was following, i think he felt a little awkward after 30 seconds he left from the store. well this was really out of topic just wanted to finish the story.
cheers
