Just got letter from London clinic I want to go to and it is  £13200     $20856 for surgeon's fees.
as I have been seriously delayed and things have shrunk I have to have a colovaginoplasty which is taking a piece of colon and lining the vaginal cavity with it so depth will not be a problem.

surgeon wants                      £9750 or $15405                       exchange rate is £1 = $1.58
assisting surgeon                     500           790
colon surgeon                          1250        1975
anaesthetist                           1700          2868

added to this is an horrendous amount for the 10 days in the clinic!   I won't type what this is as it will make your eyes water.

these anaesthetists now see themselves as being important people needing vast payment for a morning's work rather than little more than operating room staff?  If the guy does one big op in each morning and afternoon five days a week he has the potential to earn £800,000 or $1,250,000 a year!  Anyone wondering what career choice to study for shoudl consider anaesthyology!

now I have to send this quotation letter to the local National Health Service Exceptional Cases Comittee for them to agree funding.

Actually a large portion of the anesthetists fee goes on professional liability insurance in case he accidentally kills you.

Plus of course before one can specialise to become an anesthetist I am pretty sure one has to have qualified as a doctor.

I, for one, think the anesthetist who attended me on my visit to CXH in January did a superb job and I was very happy to pay his fee. I think they must charge by the hour because for a revision mine was a bit less, and well worth it!

I think if you go to an NHS hospital the fees for your stay will be pretty eye watering, which is why most SRS gets done in various smaller private clinics like the one in Hove.

The colon op is unfortunately much more complex and hence an order of magnitude more expensive.
