I have an idear, lets put our heads together and create a non-profit organization with a mission to help ALL trans in their transition. After setting up the Corporation we can most assuradly solicit donations from larger organizations that support transgender peoples. And i think that the parties donating can wriite it off on their taxes.........just a thought

As this is an international forum....

The legalities of this would be tricky...

Where would you register it as a charity....the US, the UK....Jersey or the Cayman Islands.....

And whom would be the board and exec members?

What would the admin cost for the org. be before actual donations started being dished out?

And which peeps is which countries should get help first....those in poorer third-world places maybe?

Apart from when my Dad who paid a tiny contribution toward one procedure that I had to do back in the 90's I'm totally self-financed with what I've achieved, though there is a free NHS system in the UK.... all my surgeries to date I've paid every penny (cent) worth.

Hormones also on the NHS are not free...

And when I left my ex (at 28 years of age) I started virtually out with nothing... apart from the clothes I walked in...and left her the house which I'd paid for...

So my point would be if I can do it.....why not others?

For quite a while I have been trying to get this very thing off the ground.  I call it the Sanctuary Project.  It is basically a Half-way house for Transpeople who find themselves out in the cold literally.

Each country will have to have their own version, according to the laws of that country.

I would Love To Be Involved :)
Something Like this has been on my mind for quite some time
there may be risks but there are risks for everything
I'm willing to take a chance :)

I'd like to start something like this for people in my state one day, and possibly some of the surrounding states here in the Deep South...so few resources here.  Hard to find a willing therapist or endo even in the metropolitan areas.  And for those who are low income/living on disability, even worse, because even the willing docs tend to be really expensive.

This is a great idea. I wish there was a way I could be involved. Unfortunately my involvement would likely be on the receiving end rather than the business end.

I was wondering myself if there was already some organization that would help the disabled finance their transition. Does anyone know of one? I realize how silly of a question this is considering the discussion, but I'm grasping at straws.

Well i was thinking of starting it in LA. And I KNOW that we as a whole CAN make this happen. I dont have money that I can contribute, but I have a BS in business......and lots of time......I have researched and researched and I have found no organization that helps trans transition.....there will be a lot of work to do, but the reward will be much greater..... Well all get ours and help as many as we can get theirs and THAT will be SOOOOOOOOO rewaRDING!!!!!!!

This is something that's been on my mind for quite some time also... Could you imagine a group of trans people getting organized together for a common goal without getting all bitched out, tearing each other down and trying to out trans each other?

I am serious. And I think that if many of us put our heads together and draw on each persons unique experiences we CAN do it. Anyways, for those of you reading this that have entrepreneurship experience and know what it takes to get this rolling and can help push it along. Email me with your ideas and suggestions. A lot of us have wanted and/or thought about doing something like this, well it is time for us to take action!!! WHo knows we may actually succeed!!!

By the way what do you think of my pic? That is my sweet little Penelope rabbit. She is transgender as well!!!

Can some one remind me here who's supposedly supplying the cash?

Show me the money......

Is Peggy Guggenheim onboard?

I truly would like to see something like this get off the ground and fly... There must be someway to get enough people involved and get the momentum going

I make 930.00 per  month and I would be willing to spend my rent money every month to get it going if it ever got to that point. I would stay in a shelter, eat at the food lines, and network network network.......I CAN be done. ANd that is only me. And a non-profit can really work for us. I know we could find doctors that do excellent work and that already support the trans community. I am sure that the more surgeries that are done with us a a referral could be at a discount. We can take cars as donations and people get the write off, we sell the car and sink tha cash into a corporate fund. And there are MANY MANY MANY people that would be willing to donate to the cause!!! Think positive,,,,,,

here in UK we get our transitiones funded along with all our other medical needs by the NHS which is funded by $7 petrol and $210 p.a television licences so quite frankly we feel we are entitled to our free transitions.
Tax US petrol and diesel to $7-7.50 and pay $210 just to own a telly and you too could have a free health service.  You just wouldn't be able to afford to drive to it.

We wouldn't have to spend our own money. we could collectively run fund raisers or sell hand made things or do door to door sales
hell we could collect bottles

there's so much we could do.
think of any other organization that started from scratch
it doesn't have to start out as something extravagant or even with all that much order.
not much legality has to go into just helping one another out

Even if people shared $10 a month that would make a difference. My only concern is finding a place to donate to that is reliable and puts as much as possible towards the fund to help TS. I don't know a lot about how charity's work, but it seems sometimes too much money goes to the charity and not the purpose.

Maybe for online fellow t-sters a communal donation box online with a post-op woman in charge
and a forum to document our progress?

It's easy for us to be so hard on ourselves

I really like this idea.

I suggest it would be better to base it nationally, rather than internationally.

As for funding, if it can be set up on a sound footing with some reputable managers/guardians, funding might be canvased from various groups.

A proper policy and objective would need to be defined. Along with a policy.

I have heard of something similar named after a social worker, I think it was in Illinois, but not sure.

I really want to do this and am going to begin right now. Research that is what I am going to start, figuring out the legalities blah blah blah anyways, It will be so fulfilling when I am able to be part of  someone else's solution!!!!!
