The people at Home Depot and the autoshops all know me as julie, and I can walk in in my grubbiest and still be taken as a female
I went in this week right after work, still in my power suit, hair done, nails etc and they didnt recognise me! It was Mam this etc. Not till I was at the counter, up close did the manager say "OMG. Julie?" hehehe
I am not very pretty, but I think its the walk, the posture, the confidence, ohhh and the voice that does it for me.
