I answered "never", although I don't consider therapists to be "blood suckers".  Its interesting as I have just posted a question about therapy under the therapy section believe it or not  ;D

I told my doctor how I felt and after a referral to a psychologist and then a gender specialist I have been prescribed hormones and essentially left to get on with things !!  Have I missed something along the way ?

I started seeing a psychiatrist during the summer this year for depression and anxiety and because I wanted to see if he would be my gender therapist. Then I stopped going after about two months. He was somewhat familiar with transgendered people and was non-judgemental but he didn't seem to have much experience in the area.
Besides that, I want to avoid another discussion about my lack of belief in god. Apparently it's important that I believe in a god even if not his (he's a minister). The upside is that wasn't trying to persuade me to have "normal" gender identity, but I didn't start therapy to talk about my agnosticism or how the universe got started.

I saw a therapist for about three months before HRT. I appreciated his honesty in saying that it didn't appear that I needed it any longer, but that if anything came up, I should call him.

Haven't really felt like I needed it since. He was a great help in getting through the initial upset about being trans, but once I got past that it all seemed ok.
