Gen Silent

65 In their past, they fought to be out of the closet. Now, in old age and sickness, they are forced to go back in the closet to survive. Often estranged from family and lacking a support system, LGBT seniors face isolation and discrimination in nursing homes or the healthcare system. Gen Silent profiles six of these seniors, from Lawrence and Alexandre, a couple who struggled to find a nursing home in which they felt comfortable being out, to Krysanne, a transgender woman dying from lung cancer with no one to support her. While the message and voices are strong, poor stylistic and editing choices weaken the film. RILEY HOOPER. Cinema 21. 4 pm Sunday, Oct. 3.
