Playwright Erik Jackson, a huge Stephen King fan, wanted to write his own version of "Carrie." But he had to ask King's representatives for permission first.

They're usually quite accommodating — after all, "Carrie" has already been a 1976 movie directed by Brian De Palma, an '80s Broadway musical flop, a 1999 film sequel and finally, a TV movie in 2002.

His idea came with a twist, though — one that caused some hesitation. In Jackson's play, Carrie White would be played by a man.
