Gender markers on passport and drivers licence

I will prefix this by saying I am in the UK, and not currently on T. My name has been changed for ages now and my GP has been aware of my gender issues for a few years.

I currently do not have either of these things because I've been putting it off due to not wanting a big "F" on them.

When I rang the DVLA to ask if my marker could be "M" they told me I have to use the gender on my birth certificate, this would imply that I can't change my ID marker until after I get a gender recognition certificate and a new birth certificate. I know this is bull, tons of you on here have done it before then, I know you have.

My question is....how?

Basically, you'll need an appropriately worded doctor or psych letter.

So I basically ask my GP to write a letter saying "blah blah diagnosed with GID and the change to male is permanent" ?

Anyone have a template letter? My GP's surgery is accommodating for the most part but most definitely clueless
