The other day my brother told me that he thought I was to old for SRS, especially because of my health.  He told me to do what ever I wanted, but that was his opinion and that I should be happy with what I was born with.  He doesn't see it as a medical problem and I suppose has a hard time seeing it as a mistake.

Anyway, back on topic - my health is to the point that I can't work.  I have muscle weakness, severe osteoporosis, difficulty walking around for any extended period of time, but of course there are still a lot of things that I can do.

What is the minimum quality of health that most docs want before agreeing to SRS?  What about age?  I am 46.

Age wise you are right in the middle of the average age.   As fas as your heath is concerned, if you can stand being under anesthesia for about 5 hours, you should be fine.  But contact the surgeon directly and they should be able to tell you.

I am 56.  And by the time I got SRS I will be 57-58.  Many surgeons have special precautions for patents of 60.

When I finally got the will to transition, I called Marci Bowers' office because I was concerned that I was too old.  I said that I would be 66 when I had the surgery.  They assured me that was not a problem - their oldest patient had been 78.  And as Janet said, I had to provide more documentation of my health than I would have if I was younger.  (An EKG was the only thing, I think.)

Health is another issue.  The surgeon wants some assurance that you will survive the surgery.  With your health issues, it would be best to contact some of the surgeons offices with your specific concerns.  You don't have to sign up yet, but it would be nice to know if it is a possibility.

early sixties is no bar and i did read of one person very old - nearing ninety? - who wanted to experience having a vagina before she died.
basically it seems that the criteria is good general fitness to undertake several hours on an op table.
UK surgeon told some TS I know that weight was the main criteria and over 196pounds/14stones meant no surgery.
