http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20101020/VELOCITY01/310200047My uncle is becoming my "aunt," and by that I mean he is undergoing the process of becoming a woman. He wants us to call him by his new name and is wearing makeup, dresses and things like that. I have no idea how to handle this. We've always been really close, but I didn't see this coming. I want to be supportive, but I'm also at a loss. How do I respond? I've told him I'm OK with it and that I love him no matter what, but I don't know what else to do.
Although transgendered people are a small minority of the U.S. population, they are an important part of our society and are often subject to discrimination and, sadly, violence.
I'm very happy to hear that you want to be supportive of your family member in her transition from living publicly as a man to living publicly as a woman.
