I need to remove hair down there for my operation. I done laser in my face and although it takes time it was effective. I need to remove hair as fast as possible down there in time for my operation that would possibly happen in Jan. So I want to know if electrolysis is more effective. It is way more expensive I know. Have anyone got experience with this?

From everything I've read laser has some risk of hairs growing back, which would be bad in this case. Electrolysis does not.

Electrolysis is said to hurt more down there though.

Amoré,

While laser is very quick and can often be much more cost effective, it only kills the hairs in the anagen stage. The complete cycle can be longer than a year. Any hairs that aren't currently active and won't become active before the surgery date will remain unaffected.

On the other hand, a proficient electrologist can also kill hairs that are currently visible even if they're not currently active (although it may hurt a bit more, as the needle may have to go past the resting follicle's depth.) Due to this, if the surgery is just three months from now and provided that you haven't shaved down there and know a good electrologist, I believe electrolysis might be a good choice.

Although some electrologists charge more for the area down there, it is much smaller and usually has much less hair density than the face so the final cost may not be too astronomical.

Down there is double the rate per hour.

Hm. I see.

If I'm not totally wrong, the hair density down there is also about 1/7 of facial hair... so a true cost comparison probably comes down to calculating the total area. The electrologist could maybe give some indication.

Again, the main advantage of electrolysis when time is short is that—if done right—telogen hairs can also be treated. For laser, the skin must first be shaved so much of that advantage is lost (since the dormant hairs will be cut off at the skin and mostly invisible).

With this in mind, first doing one full clearance with electrolysis and then using laser might also be an option. At least all hair after the electrolysis clearance would be in the anagen phase....

It does sound like a hard choice to make.
