In case anyone was wondering what's transpiring in the Araguz v. Delgado trial, both parties are still in the discovery phase.   If I hear anything or any developments in this case, I'll pas it along to you..

In the meantime, if you tune in to ABC's 20/20, you'll have an opportunity to watch Nikki Araguz do an interview with Deborah Roberts (not sure if she's any relation) on 20/20 this Friday. .

It was another trashy, sensationalistic show that portrayed transsexual people (in this case Nikki Araguz) as a "deceitful gay boy" who took it too far,  "became a woman" to fool men.  What a pity.

I saw her on Dateline last night. I feel bad for her. And her mom said that she was born a guy and always will be a guy... This is just messed up, both families acting like this. And Texas wont give her benifits from her husbands death and all this other stuff..geez when will the crap end?

I thought her mom was supportive?

I only paid partial attention to the show while it was recording in the background, but it sounded like they were definitely trying to play up Nikki as the old "deceptive ->-bleeped-<-" trope.  Plus, their were a few things they brought up which had already been debunked on an excellent web article (I'm looking for the link)... more lazy reporting on top of the sensationalized angle.

Unless Barbara Walters is doing the article, I have zero faith in an unbiased accurate portrayal on ABC.  I still remember the load of h*rsesh*t they passed off as the follow-up to Matthew Sheppard a couple years ago, and John Stossel used to call 20/20 home until he made the jump to Fox.

I wish they'd consider more than just appealing to the non-prurient interests in their audience and selling ad time.  Doesn't it occur to them that this negative reporting is what directly contributes to LGBT youth bullying and suicide?!

If anyone missed this and would like to see it (journalistic warts and all), I've uploaded this episode here:

4shared: Part 1 and Part 2

- or -

mediashare: Part 1 and Part 2

It's edited and only includes the segment on Mrs. Araguz.  Please be aware that the 20/20 broadcast video and original 20/20 website article both contain a number of inaccuracies and incorrect statements contrary to the available factual evidence.  As a result, the press kit from Nikki Araguz' legal support -- readily and freely available for over two months before the 20/20 broadcast video aired -- has also been included to provide correction.

(The parts on each server are identical. So, for example, you can download part 1 from one server and part 2 from the other and it'll still work.)

I had to split it into two parts due to limitations by the free servers, so you'll need a program like 7zip (free) or similar to rejoin them... be sure to save both parts in the same location, use 7zip (or whatever) to open the first file (.001), and then extract it and 7zip will stitch both parts back together.

If you have difficulty playing the Xvid-encoded AVI, you may need to update your system's media player, or just install a compatible one (such as the free VLC Media Player).

Best regards,
Josie

I was browsing the net & found this wonderful comment by Leah Peters in Nikki Araguz's facebook.

Quote from: Leah PetersShame on ABC! This episode of 20/20 was only a step above the Jerry Springer show. You attacked the real victim in this case, the widow Nikki Araguz. Come on A...BC this is the 21st century, we're supposed to be beyond this kind of ignorance and prejudice. Transsexualism is a real birth condition, it is not a choice as you seem to imply. It is also NOT a "deception" or a "secret" to live as your true self. Her private medical history is just that... private. And given how PREJUDICE the world still is against people who were born transsexual the prudence she showed is understandable. I am shocked that you edited so much information that was supportive of Nikki out of this show. In my mind that shows how PREJUDICE you folks are or that at least you aimed to exploit the ignorance surrounding transsexualism for ratings. I just have one question for you: Did anyone think to run this piece of garbage by Barbara Walters before it was aired? I highly doubt should would have approved of the slanderous journalism depicted in it. Please educate yourselves and stop treating transsexual people as freaks or deceivers because THEY ARE NEITHER. Get over your phobia and treat transsexual people as PEOPLE. Ordinary people dealing with an extraordinary physical birth condition.

My feelings exactly.
