Well, it wasn't a total failure.
But it was partly a failure. The songs, on a whole, were excellent and the costumes, sets, and choreography (probably from guest director and So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman) were good fun, but there was a bit of the narrative struggle we've seen all season.
