Alright, so this may come across as an uneducated question, but-as I plan on starting hormones around Feb/March of this coming year, and would like the option of having biological children someday in the future-how do I go about 'saving sperm' and storing it? Is it a one-time only fee or a month-to-month thing? And WHERE do I go to do this? Thanks.

I got my initial "deposit" done at the local university medical center. It was $450 for the initial tests and 1 year of storage. After the year I can either pay $100/quarter or look at more long term facilities that are a bit cheaper.

I'm not really sure whats in your area but you're doctor might have some idea. My endocrinologist suggested the university.

Thanks. I'll be moving to PDX soon so that's where I'll start my transition. Also, not too far off topic but how long is it usually before one becomes sterile after starting hormones? I know that it's not the same time frame for everyone but a ballpark figure?

It's about 6 months. I know, if I wasn't I am now!  ???

I wasn't sterile at 6 months... That's when I gave my little donation. My sperm count was low... Low enough for the tech to call me back and ask me to come back in for another sample, but usable in the future.

While I'll probably never end up using the sperm, it's good to have the option if I ever do want to use it.

There are three place for you to look at:

Oregon Fertility Institute

Northwest Fertility Center

OHSU Fertility Program

That should get you pointed in the right direction.
