My b/f and I were chatting about the Canadian trans rights bill last night, and about the "washroom issue" raised by opponents of the bill. He posed a question to me:
A father and his young daughter -- say, 3 years old -- are in a restaurant that has only one washroom for males and one for females. Both washrooms can accommodate several people at a time. The little child needs to go, and needs to be supervised. Which washroom does the father take the child into?
I don't really know the answer to this question. Perhaps parents take this sort of issue into account before they take their children to restaurants. Perhaps they seek out restaurants that have "family restrooms" or gender-neutral washrooms.
