Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, and am hoping to get some advice about job application. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Basically I'm thinking of applying for a summer job at the end of the academic year, but the problem is I will have to put down my previous school on my CV and application form. I went to a girls school and putting that down would basically out myself immediately... and I really don't want to do that. Is there anyway around the problem?? I don't want to lie either..!

Is it a nearby school that they would have heard about?

Hey Matt, welcome to the forums! As you know, we have thousands of members to draw information from, who are always willing to help.

I have quite a similar issue. I went to an all boys high school that is well known and kind of infamous/well respected around where I live. I still put it on every CV I send out for a job application, and hope for the best. It's a good school, and there's no sense in omitting your education, since lying won't be better in any way. Sure it may out you, as it did me, but there's really no way around it. Do you live in the USA, or elsewhere?

I rarely go on the FtM section, but this thread is really relevant to me.

I had a similar problem. I went to an all girls high school and really didn't want to keep that out in the open. Luckily, there is also a boys high school with the same name ( 'X' High School for Girls/Boys) in my home town, they're affiliated. So I just put 'X' High School on my CV and let them decide which one it is. I tell myself I'm not exactly lying, so I don't feel as bad. Any way you could do something similar?

Either way, your job will more than likely find out, unless you're super stealth. I would just put it down.(:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

At the moment I'm thinking of going with Tay's solution, as I don't want to out myself to potential employers before I even get the job... Although in theory the law says that they can't discriminate based on gender/gender reassignment, I still don't feel comfortable enough to out myself on my application form. If anyone has any other suggestions I would be very grateful for your help!

As for my employers finding out eventually, does everyone find that they are out at their workplace? I am hoping to be stealth at work in the future if possible, but am starting to wonder if that is impossible? Is it because of background checks they do on you?

The sector I'm thinking of joining is quite conservative and I probably won't ever get promoted if they find out...  :-\

Interesting, where I am from there is no requirement to put our school details on CVs, even when you are young as all employers care about is the grades you get in the national examinations. Of course, then when you finish with your degree they don't care about your national grades, only the quality of your higher qualification.
